home lab

challenge

part one:

the rules

  • Certain items are not included in the budget and do not count toward it. These items include:

    • Network cables

    • AC power cords

    • Cable management tools (such as cable wraps and zip ties)

    • Tools (including power tools)

    • Taxes on purchases (shipping still included)

  • Each contestant gets to use the router/modem provided by an ISP.

  • Contestants have the freedom to purchase items from various sources, including but not limited to eBay, Amazon, local listings via Marketplace or Craigslist, or physical stores.

  • Contestants are not allowed to purchase items from friends, family members, or members of their YouTube audience.

  • Contestants cannot leverage their status as online content creators to obtain special pricing or barter. If a seller identifies the contestant before a purchase is made, the contestant must forfeit the purchase.

  • Items purchased for the challenge can be sold, and any proceeds can be used in the competition. However, the same rule mentioned above also applies to selling.

  • If a contestant already owns an item, he can use that item within the home lab setup provided he deduct from his budget the value of a listing for that item that is readily available and would reasonably arrive within the time period of the competition.

  • Contestants are allowed to seek advice from anyone, including other creators or members of their audience.

  • Before each week, the contestants participate in a video call where they spin a wheel. The wheel determines bonuses, restrictions, or other factors that the contestant must adhere to for the duration of the challenge.

  • At the end of the contest, there will be a live stream featuring a special guest judge. This judge will determine the winner based on his/her opinion of each opponent’s setup. The judge will take into account all factors of the challenge including the wheel spin bonuses and restrictions, as well as the opinions of the audience.
